Brand comparison

GoldHot vs Lomi — one makes compost, the other makes shrunken landfill

Lomi pioneered the countertop category and built a strong consumer brand around lifestyle pain points — smell, pests, trash frequency. The unit ships well and is a good dehydrator-grinder. But it does not make compost; it makes dried food powder. GoldHot's premium tier (CY06 · CY08 · CY11) ferments the same input into actual living soil amendment, and is available at factory-direct OEM pricing for private-label brands and importers who want to ride the category split.

Lomi's choice — speed over biology

Lomi's engineering choice is defensible: heat-dry-grind is fast, quiet, and reliably reduces volume. The 3-hour Eco-Express cycle is genuinely useful for a busy household. The trade-off is that what comes out is not biologically alive. Lomi's own marketing now uses 'Lomi Earth' and 'pre-compost' specifically because the output is not finished compost. The company quietly acknowledges the wedge while still leading with lifestyle pain points (smelly trash, pests) that don't actually require fermentation to solve.

For end consumers who want their trash to weigh less and smell better, Lomi is a credible product. For a buyer who wants to actually feed their plants — or a brand who wants to sell into the growing 'real compost' segment — it is the wrong category.

GoldHot's choice — biology, contained

The GoldHot premium tier (CY06 4.5 L, CY08 3.0 L, CY11 2.0 L) runs at 55–60 °C with active aeration and tumbling. Thermophilic compost microbes — the same family present in any hot-pile backyard composter — are stable in that window. The cycle runs until the biology has finished, typically 12–48 hours depending on input mix. Output is dark and crumbly, smells of fresh earth, and goes directly onto houseplants or into garden soil.

Yes, this is slower than Lomi's 3-hour cycle. The point is what comes out, not how fast. A buyer who understands the difference pays the premium; a buyer who does not is a Lomi customer.
