Real compost. The CY01A ferments waste with thermophilic microbes in the 55-60°C range, the same biological process a backyard compost heap runs, just contained and faster. Output is dark, crumbly, microbially active soil amendment. That is the key category line: dehydrator-grinders (Lomi, Mill, Vitamix FoodCycler) heat food to 100°C+ and pulverise it into dry powder, that is not compost, just shrunken landfill. We chose microbial fermentation because the output actually feeds soil.

Food waste goes into a sealed, insulated chamber. The CY01A maintains the 55-60°C window thermophilic compost microbes need, gently aerates and tumbles the load so oxygen reaches the whole batch, and runs the cycle until the biology has done its job, typically 12-48 hours depending on input. Output is finished or near-finished compost: dark, earth-smelling, ready to top-dress houseplants or blend into garden soil at a 1:10 ratio.

The CY01A draws roughly 0.6-1.2 kWh per full cycle in normal mode. At the U.S. average rate of $0.16 / kWh that is about $0.10-$0.20 per cycle. Yes. Because the CY01A produces real compost rather than dehydrated food, the output is safe to apply directly: top-dress houseplants up to 1 cm, blend into potting mix at 1:10, or side-dress garden beds. Real-compost output is also low-odour because the microbes have already finished the smelly part, the volatile fatty acids that make raw food scraps reek.

12-48 hours depending on input. Soft inputs (fruit, vegetables, coffee grounds) finish in 12-18 hours; mixed loads with meat or dairy run 24-36 hours; bone-heavy or dense loads can take 48. This is longer than a dehydrator-grinder (3-8 hours), but a dehydrator is not making compost; it is making dry powder that still has to be composted elsewhere.

Yes, when it makes real compost. Food sent to landfill produces methane, a greenhouse gas roughly 80× more potent than CO₂ over 20 years. A real-compost composter prevents that emission and returns nutrients to the soil cycle, both of which a dehydrator-grinder does not (its output, if landfilled, still becomes methane source). The CY01A's electricity use is small compared to the methane offset of diverting food waste.
