Real compost. The CY08 / CY08G ferments waste with thermophilic microbes in the 55-60°C range, the same biological process a backyard compost heap runs, just contained and faster. Output is dark, crumbly, microbially active soil amendment. That is the key category line: dehydrator-grinders (Lomi, Mill, Vitamix FoodCycler) heat food to 100°C+ and pulverise it into dry powder, that is not compost, just shrunken landfill. We chose microbial fermentation because the output actually feeds soil.

12-48 hours depending on input. Soft inputs (fruit, vegetables, coffee grounds) finish in 12-18 hours; mixed loads with meat or dairy run 24-36 hours; bone-heavy or dense loads can take 48. This is longer than a dehydrator-grinder (3-8 hours), but a dehydrator is not making compost; it is making dry powder that still has to be composted elsewhere.
